Rosabelle Smith, 91, of Sterling, died on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, in Sterling. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Joyce Detoni-Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

She was born on April 15, 1919, in Atwood, to Thomas Hetrick and Hazel (Kendrick) Hetrick. After graduating high school, she married Arden R. Smith on Aug. 11, 1937, in Sterling. She worked as a homemaker as well as helping her husband on the farm. Mrs. Smith was active in church and community organizations. She was a member of the Kelly E.U.B. church until its closure, at which time she became a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. Throughout her church years, she was active in the Women’s and Missions Organizations. She spent years teaching Sunday school and working in children’s programs.

She was a member of the Logan County Extension Club, where she was awarded Homemaker of the Year, the Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge, adviser of Theta Rho girls club, and the Logan Lodge. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, ceramics, needlework, gardening, and teaching and advising the members of the 4-H Clubs and FHA. She is survived by her daughters, Marijean Barela and husband Mutt, Margaret Rose Huntley, JoEllen Emarine and husband John, Ardith White and husband Syd, and Barbara Sobott. She has 20 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arden Smith; and her daughter, Dorothy Huffman. Memorials may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church in care of Tennant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
